Golden Edge Snake Plant

Botanical Name: Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii' (syn. Dracaena trifasciata 'Laurentii')
Family: Asparagaceae
Origin: West Africa (Nigeria to Congo)
Plant Type: Evergreen clumping succulent perennial (indoor or sheltered outdoor)

Overview

One of the world's most recognised and widely grown indoor plants, Sansevieria trifasciata 'Laurentii' is the classic golden-edged Snake Plant — and for very good reason. Its tall, stiffly upright sword-shaped leaves in deep green with irregular lighter green banding and vivid golden-yellow margins are bold, architectural and instantly distinctive. It brings strong vertical structure and year-round foliage interest to any indoor space, sheltered courtyard or warm outdoor position across Adelaide.
Virtually indestructible, 'Laurentii' tolerates low light, infrequent watering, drought, heat and neglect with extraordinary resilience. It is one of the most forgiving plants available and consistently ranked among the best air-purifying indoor plants. For Adelaide gardens it suits sheltered outdoor positions in warmer months and thrives indoors year-round — a genuinely essential plant for modern homes, offices and outdoor living spaces.

Key Features

  • Mature Size: 0.6–1.2 m H x 0.4–0.6 m W (upright clumping habit; spreads slowly via rhizomes)
  • Growth Rate: Slow; 5–15 cm per year; long-lived and steadily expanding clump
  • Foliage: Tall, stiffly upright sword-shaped leaves; deep green with irregular lighter green horizontal banding and distinctive bright golden-yellow margins; thick, succulent and leathery; evergreen year-round
  • Flowers: Rarely flowers indoors; mature outdoor specimens occasionally produce fragrant cream to greenish-white tubular flower spikes in summer; a bonus rather than the primary appeal
  • Fragrance: Flowers lightly fragrant when produced; foliage not fragrant
  • Seasonal Interest: Bold architectural upright foliage with golden margins year-round; clump slowly expands over time; occasional fragrant flower spike in warm conditions on mature specimens
  • Wildlife Value: Minimal; primarily valued as an indoor and courtyard architectural plant
  • Tolerance: Extremely drought-tolerant; excellent heat tolerance; tolerates low to bright indirect light; tolerates neglect exceptionally well; frost-sensitive — protect from frost and cold winds; dislikes overwatering and waterlogging which are the primary causes of failure; dislikes cold draughts
  • Planting Density: Single feature specimen; groups of 3 at 40–50 cm spacing for bold indoor or outdoor displays; suitable for any container (25 cm+)
  • Pet Friendly: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested; can cause nausea, vomiting and drooling; keep away from pets

Where It Works Best

  • Sunlight: Bright indirect light to low light indoors; full sun to part shade in sheltered outdoor positions; golden margin colouring is most vivid in brighter light; tolerates surprisingly low light but grows more slowly
  • Soil: Free-draining sandy or succulent/cactus potting mix essential; excellent drainage is the single most important factor; never allow to sit in water; in ground outdoors, well-drained sandy or loamy soils only
  • Water Needs: Establishment: water sparingly — once every 2 weeks is sufficient. Established: extremely low water needs; water every 2–4 weeks in summer allowing soil to dry completely between waterings; water only once every 4–8 weeks in cooler months; overwatering is by far the most common cause of failure
  • Maintenance: Virtually maintenance-free; remove dead or damaged leaves at the base; wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them looking their best; divide clumps every 3–5 years to manage size and propagate; feed with a diluted balanced fertiliser once or twice during spring and summer only
  • Lifespan: Very long-lived; indefinite with correct care; clumps expand slowly and can live for decades
  • Climate Zones: Outstanding indoors across all Adelaide zones year-round; sheltered outdoor use in warm coastal suburbs and protected courtyards in warmer months; bring indoors or protect when temperatures drop below 10°C
  • Soil pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0–7.0); not sensitive to pH in well-drained conditions

Landscape & Design Ideas

  • Bold indoor feature plant for living rooms, offices, atriums and hallways where its tall upright form and golden margins create strong architectural presence in any light level
  • Sheltered alfresco and courtyard container specimen providing year-round structural foliage interest with minimal maintenance in Adelaide's warmer months
  • Group three plants together in a statement container for a dramatic, hotel-lobby style indoor display that requires almost no care
  • Pair with other low-water sculptural plants such as Agave, ZZ Plant and Alocasia for a bold, contemporary indoor plant collection
  • Bedroom and office plant; listed by NASA as one of the most effective air-purifying plants, filtering toxins including benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene

Why You Will Love It

'Laurentii' is the gold standard of low-maintenance indoor plants and for good reason. The bold upright leaves with their vivid golden margins look spectacular in almost any interior setting, it tolerates neglect better than almost any other plant, and it keeps working quietly in the background to clean the air. If you want drama, structure and virtually zero maintenance — this is the plant.

Great dog toy
Size: 8 Inch, Color: Pink
The amount of stupid and cute these dogs look like when they shake this ball and smack their own faces! It took a hot second for either dog to understand where to bite on the ball, but now that they do, they both will play with it for a while. Great purchase, came with a pump to blow the ball up.

Perfect for my dog
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
My dog (16 lb) LOVES to whip her toys around and throw them in the air to chase after them. This is the perfect toy for her to play outside by herself. I would repurchase for her over and over again if needed!

Pup loves this!
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
My pup loves his soccer balls. These are very durable although if you have a dog that doesn't grasp the concept of using the loops/straps to carry it, teeth could puncture it. They are a good value for the money if your dog likes to chase the ball, I get the smaller size ball for my dog (medium dog). They come with a pump but if you have a bicycle pump or a battery operated pump, it will fill much faster. Ours stay outside and even in the winter, they hold up well, just need a bit more air occasionally to keep it pumped up.

Well that didn't last long!
Color: Blue Puppy, Size: Medium Size 2
He loved it for the 15 minutes it took to destroy it! Cute design, but the material was thin enough to penetrate with his teeth and it was all over in a very short time! He still carries the carcass around and tries to play with it...it's sad. Definitely not for strong chewers.
